If you’re wanting to make your proposal romantic and unique, there’s no better place to propose than Scotland. Officially one of the most beautiful places in the world, Scotland’s beauty is deeply embedded in its scenery and it’s a great idea to have a marriage proposal photographer there to capture this once in a lifetime moment. There are so many spots to propose in Scotland, from beaches to quaint towns to mountains and peaks to the hustling, bustling city centres. There’s something for every kind of couple and here are 15 of the most romantic and unique spots to propose in Scotland…


Calton Hill

With panoramic views across the whole city of Edinburgh, Calton Hill is an iconic spot and it’s famous for its historic monuments, most noted being the National Monument inspired by the Parthenon in Athens. Eilean Donan Castle

Hailed as one of Scotland’s most beautiful castles, Eilean Donan has appeared in countless films, including James Bond ‘The World Is Not Enough’. It’s also one of the most photographed fortresses in Scotland and rightly so, this beautiful castle guards a small island at the meeting point of three sea lochs on the west coast of Scotland and overlooks the Isle of Skye. Scenery doesn’t get much better than this and it’s the perfect place for your marriage proposal photographer to capture that iconic moment.

Jacobite Steam Train

Why not pop the question on the greatest railway journey in the world? Bonus points if your partner is a Harry Potter lover. The Jacobite starts at Fort William, situated near Ben Nevis and passes through Glenfinnan where you cross the Glenfinnan viaduct (made famous from the Harry Potter films) then continue on through Arisaig, Mallaig and finish at Loch Nevis. The journey is full of spectacular, breathtaking scenery so you’ve got plenty of amazing spots to ask that special question.

Top Tip: Consult with your proposal photographer first on which location you’re going to ask the all important question so he can get the photographs at all the correct moments.

Glencoe

Something magical has to be said for proposing right in the Scottish highlands, and Glen Coe is full of beautiful places to explore. Another firm movie location favourite Glen Coe has become known as the Scottish Grand Canyon and it’s perfect for those with an outdoor streak who want a memorable moment amidst some of the best scenery that Scotland has to offer.  Get your proposal photographer to take some shots by the scenic waterfall, or even better… pop the question there!

Isle of Mull

Tobermory in the Isle of Mull is full of quaint and wonderfully bright coloured buildings positioned right along the waterfront. It’s also the home of nostalgic kids TV show balamory and is a perfect backdrop for those looking for a charming, old fashioned proposal. The Isle of Mull is also home to lots of wildlife, gorgeous with mountains, white sand beaches, blue seas. Everything you could wish for when planning a proposal. Isle of Skye

Renowned for being a location of beauty the Isle of Skye has a ton of romantic places for you to propose. Talisker beach is perfect for if you want some stunning proposal photography as it’s surrounded by towering cliffs. If you’re looking for something unique then Sligachan Bridge is perfect, famous for the The Enchanted Waters of Sligachan myth. Why not make your proposal magical by proposing on the bridge or by the enchanted waters?

Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park are beautiful, complete with snow-capped mountains, wild scenery. Trossachs refers to the romantic glistening of lochs, rolling hills, deep forests and the lovely villages of Loch Lomon. The actual Loch Lomond is at the heart of the park and is one of the biggest lochs in Britain, it’s perfect for water activities from kayaking to canoes, jet skis and even windsurfing. Why not take your partner for a romantic afternoon out on the lake and pop the question there?  There are some great spots for food, so make sure you celebrate!

Finnich Glen

How does a 100ft deep, moss covered gorge with a ruby coloured river sound for a proposal? Finnich Glen and the Devil’s Pulpit is truly a hidden gem - and involves the spirit of adventure trying to get there. Make sure you have hiking boots on, or you go on a sunny day to avoid any disasters, the descent into Finnich Glen can be very slippery. Dunnottar Castle

High on the edge of the sweeping cliffs, Dunnottar castle is a medieval fortress from the early middle ages and the rock it was built upon was formed 440 million years ago. The castle, once home to one of the most powerful families in Scotland is steeped in history, perfect for any history lover. St Ninian’s Isle

St Ninian’s Isle is a perfectly symmetrical 500m stretch of beautiful, unspoilt sand connected to the Shetland mainland and sandwiched between beautifully blue waters. If you’re planning a proposal here, make sure it’s at low tide and be sure to have a proposal photographer at the ready to capture some stunning images and maybe even some drone footage.

Ben Nevis

Ben Nevis was once an active volcano which exploded and collapsed inwards on itself millions of years ago. The name translates into ‘mountain with it’s head in the clouds’. Cobbled streets with houses beautifully decorated with foliage and flowers, Circus Lane is like something straight out of a storybook, it feels like an entirely different place to the rest of the city. It’s quaint, charming, picturesque and the shops, cafes and restaurants looks picture perfect from any angle. And they’re all just as amazing inside as they are out.
