Should I Hire a Wedding Videographer?

Wedding videography, for one reason or another, doesn’t seem to be high up on the priority list when it comes to choosing wedding suppliers but videography is becoming increasingly popular for a number of reasons! Hiring both a wedding photographer and a wedding videographer can seem like an overwhelming cost and some couples find it difficult to spend a large proportion of their wedding budget on documenting the day through photos and film.

However, having worked with a number of couples in the past, I have never come across a couple who regret hiring a wedding videographer. Below are five reasons why hiring a wedding videographer is a GREAT idea!

1. You get to relive the memories over and over

Weddings are not only deeply personal but also a once-in-a-lifetime event. Having your wedding film means you can relive the special day forever. Since some memories are bound to fade over the years, having the moments on film is truly priceless. On your wedding day, you’ll be making so many precious memories that I guarantee you won’t regret reliving after a couple of years.

Wedding anniversaries will be made even more special when you get to watch your wedding film and remember all the moments of your wedding. In fact, even a random Monday can be made sweeter by blocking off some time to watch your wedding film and relive all the beautiful moments!

2. You can easily share the video with people who couldn’t make it

As sad as it is to think that your family member might not be able to make it (due to illness, distance or age), having a videographer means you’ll have all the moments on film and can easily share the video with them. If you decide to elope, it’s likely that nobody apart from your officiant and close family will get to witness your wedding, so having a videographer is paramount and it’ll allow your loved ones who couldn’t make it, to feel like they were there, by watching your wedding film. Videographers are able to edit and create a shorter version of your wedding film so you can easily publish these on platforms such as Youtube or Vimeo and share a shorter version with your family so they can get a peak to your special day. You can also easily give everyone who wishes they were there, a front-row seat to your wedding (through the film).

3. Your vows, music, and toasts cannot be photographed

Your vows, music and toasts are some of the most emotional parts of your day which you’d be grateful to have documented. There is nothing like getting to hear your spouse’s vows again and a wedding film allows that! A photographer can freeze the visuals during this moment but cannot capture your spouse’s vows. The same can be said for the toasts and speeches at the reception.

In addition, a photographer will capture great stills of your and your guests’ reactions at the reception, but you’ll never get another chance to see and hear your loved ones deliver those carefully crafted jokes unless you have them on film. Let’s talk about the music! The music is something that sets the theme and ties the entire day together. A videographer can capture the sounds in an exact moment in time and you’ll be able to relive these moments forever.

4. You’ll get to see moments you might have missed

It’s no secret that you’ll be very busy on your wedding day and there will be many things happening at one given time! Depending on how big your wedding day/party is, there might be things that you’ll miss on your wedding day but the beauty of hiring a wedding videographer is that they won’t miss a thing! So you’ll get to focus fully on your spouse and soak up all the love your heart can handle. Then, when all the fun is over, you get to watch your wedding film professionally put together and get to see the entire day through your guests’ eyes. From the anticipation of the moments before you walked down the aisle to the cheering of your first kiss, you’ll get to see what your parents saw as they watched you promise your lives to each other. Hiring a wedding videographer means you’ll have a designated set of eyes on your wedding day that will be able to capture many moments than what you will see and hear on your own whilst also getting ready for your special day!

5. A keepsake for your future children

Your wedding film will be an invaluable heirloom that you can pass down to your children, which they can then pass to their children and so on. This is the future family that you might not have even thought of just yet! And they’ll get to see you on the best day of your life in a much more personal and realistic way than just photos. Also if it’s a traditional wedding you’re planning, you’ll most likely have the entire family together in one place so having a wedding videographer document the entire family is an invaluable gift that you’ll be giving yourselves and your family!
