For most couples, booking a wedding photographer is a must - and after the hustle and bustle of your big day, it’s the one thing you always have to look back to relive the memories. But have you ever considered wedding videography as well?

Having photos as a reminder is wonderful, but there’s nothing that compares to having your very own movie. Weddings are such an amazing day but they fly by at the speed of light. Having a film that captures all the special moments is a special reminder for years to come and to show generations to come!

As well as your own special moments you’ll be able to relive parts of the day from your guests point of view and relive your wedding day from their perspective. I have never known anyone to regret hiring a wedding videographer.

In this blog post we’ll take you through what wedding videography is, wedding videography prices and what you need to consider when thinking about hiring a wedding videographer.

What is wedding videography?

Wedding videography is essentially a movie of your wedding, made up of all the best highlights and amazing moments. A videographer shoots various moments from across your wedding day from the guests' antics to the ceremony and speeches, the cutting of the cake and the dancing til dawn. The moments are then cut, edited and transformed into a magical movie by your videographer, resulting in a beautiful and memorable reminder of your day to look back and relive over and over.

What is the average cost for wedding videography?

According to Bridebook, the average cost of hiring a wedding videographer in the UK is around £1016 but it can vary from anywhere between £500 to £2000. It might seem expensive, but it’s worth it every time. You’ll also be able to find something to suit your budget and many photographers (including myself) offer photography and videography packages.

Factors that can affect the price of wedding videography?

There are a number of things that might affect the price of a wedding videographer:

  • Depending on your location, prices can vary across the UK. London is the most expensive region for wedding photography and videography with videographers costing over £2000. Prices tend to decrease the further north you travel so maybe see if videographers are willing to travel when deciding on your videographer.

  • If your wedding photographer is travelling far to shoot your wedding, this might also affect the price. Travelling means extra expenses like accommodation, ensuring all the right equipment is there on the day and is safe in transit.

  • The experience a videographer has can affect the price. More experienced videographers will charge a higher rate than someone who is just starting out in their wedding creative career. More experience often brings in more expensive equipment to capture your special day along with some seriously innovative editing and curating, which means you’ll get some amazingly high quality footage in perfectly stitched and curated as a short film!

  • Various packages are different in price. Many wedding videographers have varying packages. Basic packages usually cover the ceremony, speeches and a few guest interactions. Mid-range packages can include extra videographers and capture everything in basic packages as well as moments like your first dance. Depending on the photographer, premium packages include more videographers and potentially features such as aerial footage of the wedding and moments all the way through to the end of the night antics! Have a think about how much of your wedding you want to capture, if there’s any particular moments you want capturing and the various prices.

  • The time spent capturing footage will affect the price, the more footage of the wedding you want the higher the price will be. So it’s important to think about and decide exactly what moments of the day you want to capture. Maybe you only want the ceremony and speeches captured, or maybe you want all the bells and whistles and don’t want to miss a moment.

  • The date of your wedding can affect the price. Weekends and summer weddings tend to attract higher prices as they’re during peak wedding season.

What should I think about when considering wedding videography?

Be sure to take factors that can affect the price into account if you’re concerned about the budget with your wedding. Work out what you can afford to spend on your videographer and then have that as your point of reference when you begin researching videographers.

Style of Videography:

One of the most important things to think about is the style of videography you want. From cinematic to dramatic and moody to classy and elegant, there are so many different types of wedding film waiting to be captured.

Research around and really look at the different types of wedding films by different videographers and note down the styles you love. Don’t just skim through each, watch the full films and see how each film makes you feel and what emotions are created. The story should make you feel a certain way.

Each videographer will have a different style so noting down particular styles will help you narrow down your search. It’s important to note that the style of film a wedding videographer creates, they usually don’t deviate away from. So make sure it’s the style you like as if you ask them for another style or way of filming, that’s very unlikely to happen.

Trust and a good connection:

Trust and connection ****is key when booking a wedding videographer. Having a good working relationship brings a mutual understanding for the big day, and everyone will know what's expected of them.

Connecting on a personal level means you’ll feel comfortable, at ease and you’ll be relaxed on the day knowing that everything is in their hands, and handled well. When you’ve found particular videographers you like, contact them, call them, maybe even video chat with them before you meet them to see how you get on. By getting to know them and their style as much as possible and creating a connection with them, you’ll find the perfect filmmaker for your wedding.
