How to Hire a Photographer for Your Destination Wedding in Mexico?

Weddings in Mexico are magical. Mexico is known as “the land of tequila and mariachi” so, here, the wedding party is exactly that. It’s a huge celebration. As for Mexican honeymoons, they’re filled with red-letter moments. You can take speedboats out to desert islands, snorkel together in coral reefs, and hike rainforest trails. There’s something about getting married in another country – and for Mexico, it’s popular for its sunny weather and exotic beaches. It’s a wonderful location to come together with your family and friends and tie the knot. It’s a vacation, it’s relaxing, it’s adventurous, and you can let loose and just revel in the exotic, gorgeous beaches and ocean. It’s also fun to watch your guests test their limits with tequila!

There are a few things that you should consider to make your destination wedding planning smooth. Firstly, you should plan to stay for at least a week since Mexico is a huge country and you want to make a true vacation out of it. Schedule plans for your guests on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Here’s a good sample wedding itinerary for a Mexico wedding: Thursday: Margarita Welcome Party with a taco truck (you can hire a taco truck to come to your location, unless the venue doesn’t allow outside catering). Friday: Rehearsal Dinner with full Mexican dinner – maybe have a tequila tasting station! Saturday: Wedding Day! During the reception, have your caterer do passed tequila shots on the dance floor. This is always so much fun and makes for great photos. Sunday: Poolside Recovery Brunch with chill music.

When it comes to choosing your wedding photographer, there are two ways you can approach this. Hire a Mexican wedding photographer who is based in Mexico or find a closer-to-home destination photographer who is willing to travel (of course this could come at a higher cost). Either one works, but you may find it harder to connect with a photographer who’s overseas. Having said that, with modern technology these days, you could be meeting your destination wedding photographer over Skype or Facetime and discussing your wedding plans in detail which is just as easy as hiring a photographer from your home-town and meeting him/her in-person.

So how do you go actually about finding this destination wedding photographer? You can start on Instagram and look through hashtags like #destinationweddingphotographer, or search for destination wedding photography on Pinterest to see which wedding photography styles resonate best with you. Then, pull your list together and head over to their websites. Browse their previous wedding galleries, learn a bit about the photographers, set up calls or in-person meetings, and see which one you click with best!
