Why hire a wedding photographer who also offers filmmaking?

Over the past few years of us being in the wedding photography and filmmaking business, we have noticed photography to be very high on the agenda when wedding planning but videography can sometimes be overlooked. We’ve spoken in depth before about why you should hire a professional videographer - you can share moments at any time to anyone who missed the wedding, you can relive all the special moments yourselves from the songs to your vows. The best part is you can relive them however many times you wish, over and over. You can also experience your wedding day from the perspective of everyone else as videography captures all the special moments of your family and friends.

It’s amazing to be able to have these memories that you can look back on whenever, and you can also pass down to loved ones through the years. Browsing through TikTok, I came across a post about regrets someone had about their wedding, and in the comments so many users said that they regretted not getting a videographer. Photos last a lifetime but they’re still pictures and don’t tell you much about the feelings on the day. Take a look at Amandine & Tom’s wedding film to see what I mean when I say feelings. They certainly don’t bring moments to life in the same way that video does. So it’s really worth considering videography as well as photography. One thing you should bear in mind if you’re considering hiring a photographer and videographer, is that it’s A LOT better to hire the same creatives i.e. a photographer that also does filmmaking for a number of reasons which we will talk about in detail in this blog-post.

So should you hire the same creatives for wedding photography and filmmaking?

Every couple plans their wedding differently, so it’s completely up to you whatever your decisions, however when it comes to wedding photography and filmmaking there are a number of reasons it can be beneficial to work with someone who provides both services:

1. Shared Goals.

Having one business accountable for both the photography and videography means shared goals and getting a perfect overall result! You have everyone acting as a team rather than two separate businesses which means coordination and consistent communication. Weddings can be a high stress environment so when a team relies on each other and are accountable for each other's output, they work together in harmony.

2. Experience and routine.

If you have separate photographers and filmmakers, both suppliers will be fighting for space in order to get their shots. You'd hope that your photographer has worked with other filmmakers before and knows where to stand in order not to be in your film (so it's all seamless) but to this day, there are still so many cases where photographers and filmmakers are in each others shots. Hiring a photographer who also provides filmmaking services is the best way to resolve this issue as the operators would have worked with each other before and would know exactly where they need to stand in order to avoid being in each other's shots. They’ll have experience from previous weddings so will know exactly what works and what doesn’t necessarily work from past experience.

3. Shared Style.

Having the same photographer and videographer means consistency in the execution and style of all your wedding memories! Do you want something dramatic? Cinematic? Bohemian or rustic? Having the same team working solely on your wedding will mean all your photos and videos are similar and everyone will be working to the same vision. If you're dead set on a particular style or having all your memorabilia a certain way then having the same company producing both photography and videography is a must.

By leaving everything in the hands of one company, you’ll also get a consistent quality - no need to worry about super high quality video and not so nice pictures and vice versa.

4. Package prices.

Another bonus, especially great to hear when planning an expensive wedding is the price discounts you may encounter by using the same company for photography and videography. Booking these services together means you’ll save sweet sweet cash money - meaning you’ll have more funds to put towards other things on your perfect day, or maybe even towards your honeymoon! Perhaps a dreamy all-inclusive honeymoon at the crystal clear lagoons and frosted white-sand beaches of Maldives?

5. A BIG ONE…Less stress.

By having one point of contact for everything photography and film related and having everyone on the same page with what you and your partner want, you’ll save a whole tonne of stress. Rather than having to communicate with various individuals, you can form a relationship with just the one client who’ll listen, understand your needs and relay all the information communicated to the rest of their teams. They’ll be conjuring up a plan for the day where everyone will be on the same page, co-ordinated and raring to go! You’ll save yourself so much time and stress and feel safe in the knowledge that you’ll be getting exactly what you want.

Let me tell you a secret.

PASSION. HEART. SOUL.

These are the three ingredients of a beautiful story and we can guarantee you that it exists between every couple. As wedding & elopement photographers and filmmakers, we search for these three ingredients every time we’re shooting weddings. We craft our photos and film to our couples to it’s a TRUE REPRESENTATION of YOU. You can see how every wedding we have documented is different yet the style is consistent, that’s because we pour our hearts into what we do and cater our artwork to our couples, so it’s not just a wedding film, it’s a visual story of the bonding of you two.

As artists, we’re both passionate about photography and filmmaking, so we will constantly switch between photo/video throughout the day to document your special day from multiple perspectives (they call us hybrid shooters). If you’re on the hunt for a wedding photographer who also offers videography, then drop us a line… we can’t wait to hear from you and find out more about your wedding plans.
