The only requirement is that your ceremony is done by a registered celebrant, you don’t need to be a citizen. To find a registered celebrant make sure you contact the local office located in Portree. Anyone outside the European Economic area or Switzerland should apply for a marriage visa within 3 months of your elopement for a small fee of...£95.

Talisker Beach
Voted one of the best beaches in Scotland this is the perfect place for any beach lovers. Have you dreamed of getting married on the beach? Taliskers' sandy shores and towering cliffs makes for a perfect elopement setting. The beach is on the west of Skye but on the northern side the dramatic cliffs are home to a beautiful waterfall. All hail lovers of the sea and water for elopements here…
Portree
Portree is a picture perfect harbour town complete with a rainbow street of houses. The town was created as a fishing village in the 19th century - it’s only 200 years old - by Lord MacDonald. Despite looking rural and quaint, Portree’s port is booming and the town has a bustling community. If you want somewhere picturesque but has a lot to do, this is the perfect place to elope.
Quiraing
If you love dramatic cliffs and craggy mountains towering far and wide, Quiraing is perfect for you. Winding trails attract walkers in search of incredible views. Quiraing Mountain Pass is a famous observation point and when the weather is clear and bright you can see all the way to the seashore. If eloping, be sure to wear comfortable clothing to get you to the top. And pack plenty of snacks!
The Old Man of Storr
The place of myth and legend, the majestic rocks aka ‘The Storr’ - derived from the Norse “Great Man” - feels magical. The jutting rocks overlook the beautiful waters and make for a picturesque spot. Legend has it that The Old Man of Storr was an old giant who once lived at Trotternish bridge and when he passed and laid to rest, his thumb (the Old Man) remained above ground! Scientific explanations differ and believe a landslide resulted in the vistas. It’s super easy to get to with it being a 15 minute drive from Portree.
Kilt Rock
If you visit Kilt Rock on a sunny day it’s hard to believe that you’re in Scotland. The beautiful blue waters and towering cliffs are like something of a land far away. The cliff is home to Mealt Waterfall, a cascading body of water that pumments down into the turquoise waters. On a windy day the sound of the water and wind, due to holes facing the sea, create an organ-like whimsical sound that compliments the majestic waterfall.
Fairy Pools
If you can catch the fairy pools early in the morning, it’s like visiting a scene from a magical movie and you’ll have it all to yourself. The emerald pools and multiple rushing waterfalls are surrounded by hills and if the adventurous spirit prevails, you can try your hand at jumping into it’s icy cold waters. It’s a famous spot for wild swimming.
Fairy Glen
If you want enchanting, head to Fairy Glen.The green grassy hills wind beautifully and the area is home to Castle Ewan and many sheep who choose to graze here. Behind castle Ewan is a small cave where we’re told that pressing coins into cracks will bring good luck. A must do for any eloping couples.
Sligachan
A picture perfect postcard place, the River Sligachan runs under a small beautiful stone bridge across from a range of mighty mountains. Another spot home to myth and magic, the fairies of the battle of Scathach and Cu Chulainn are said to live on in the rivers and when you dunk your face into the river you enter a portal to the fairies and gain eternal beauty. Be sure to get some stunning shots of the bridge, the mountains and the magical waters.
Dunvegan Castle
Scotland is famous for its castles and Dunvegan is a prime example why. The castle is the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland and has been home to Clan Macleods chiefs for over 800 years. It’s steeped in history but has undergone a revamp in the 19th century. Could you ask for a more beautiful castle surrounded by a loch, greenery, woodlands and mountains! It’s the perfect place for a fairytale elopement.

What’s the best season to elope on the Isle of Skye?
Summer in Skye: Summer is a beautiful season for an elopement on the Isle of Skye with the longest daylight hours making for light evenings and gorgeous sunsets. The temperature is most likely going to be warmer however you’ll need to be prepared for areas being populated with tourists.
Autumn in Skye: This is potentially one of the best times of year on the Isle. An already beautiful season is enriched here, with beautiful dusky evenings and autumnal colours coming to the forefront. If you love the deep orange, red and brown autumn leaves and that festive feeling starting to creep in this would be a perfect season for an elopement.
Winter in Skye: A season for the brave, whilst you might be lucky with fluffy white snow sprinkled everywhere there is a high chance of heavy rain and blustery winds. If you don’t mind bracing the elements, an elopement in winter could make for a beautifully dramatic and intense photoshoot. The upside, no tourists mean you basically have the place to yourselves.
Spring in Skye: After the various conditions of winter, Spring brings with it warmer days, a light airy feel and beautiful blooming landscape.

What should I wear?
You can never predict the weather in Britain whatever the season so prepare for a range of conditions. Elopements require a lot of walking so make sure you’ve got comfy hiking shoes, layers to keep warm if the weather is chilly, and a waterproof jacket should the heavens open. If you want to feel extra cosy, bring a blanket! Dress wise, a wedding dress which allows a lot of movement will look beautiful in any wedding photos and films. It’ll look beautiful and whimsical against a dramatic backdrop! But, wear whatever dress you feel most confident and beautiful in.
